2014 Sarah Weddington Prize Winners
Center for Reproductive Rights (the Center), in collaboration with Law Students for Reproductive Justice (LSRJ), is pleased to announce the winners of the ninth annual Sarah Weddington Writing Prize for New Student Scholarship in Reproductive Rights.

Alyson Schwartz, J.D. Candidate, ’15, Indiana University Maurer School of Law “Dangerous or Just Pregnant? How Sanism &, Biases Infect the Dangerousness Determination in the Civil Commitment of Pregnant Women” The goal of the Sarah Weddington Writing Prize is to encourage innovative analysis and advocacy, as well as to prepare future thought leaders in the reproductive rights and justice movement. We encourage writing that amplifies lesser heard voices, applies an intersectional, reproductive justice lens to legal thinking, offers anti-essentialist analysis, and/or suggests innovative solutions that take into account the practical realities and the lived experiences of the people affected by various forms of subordination and reproductive oppression.
Authors of the first, second and third place submissions received cash prizes of $750, $500 (split), and $250, respectively. The full text of the winning submissions will be available on the LSRJ website at http://lsrj.org/awards/.
