Center Background: The Center for Reproductive Rights, a global human rights organization with expertise in constitutional and international law, seeks a dynamic and experienced Development Associate for Individual Giving to be based in its New York City headquarters. The Associate will report to the Director of Development and join a development team of 10 individuals as a crucial part of an innovative and cutting-edge organization committed to promoting the equality, reproductive health, and self-determination of women throughout the world. National-level courts, regional human rights courts, and United Nations bodies have increasingly recognized that a woman’s right to reproductive autonomy and reproductive healthcare are basic human rights that must be protected. The Center for Reproductive Rights has played a key role in securing these legal victories and works with attorneys and advocates in the U.S., Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. In addition to its headquarters, the Center has offices in Washington, D.C., Nairobi, Bogotá, and Nepal. At a moment in which the Center for Reproductive Rights is launching an aggressive and exciting strategic plan to expand its impact worldwide over the next five years, this is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious development professional to take a leading role in developing data tools for the growth and success of the organized, poised to meet an annualized 2012 fundraising goal of $13,600,000.

Responsibilities:

The Development Associate for Individual Giving provides support for the Individual Giving Program and general support to the Director of Development, Director of Individual Giving and to key Development Department functions.

Position Profile:

· Provide assistance to the Directors of Development and Individual Giving, including the production and management of timeline/logistics for major donor mailings, donor calls, major gift acknowledgements, and assistance with major donor solicitation meetings, both on and off site.

· Work closely with direct response consultant and serve at the point person for direct mail and telemarketing copy, production and data analysis.

· Attend program meetings, when appropriate, and inform individual giving team of key programmatic developments.

· Provide backup and assistance with tracking individual giving, crossover foundation reports, and gift acknowledgement.

· Support the Director of Development with scheduling, maintaining moves management actions and calendar of activities, logistics and other support for major donor interactions.

· Work with Development team members to facilitate smooth coordination of specific projects and timelines, and generate recommendations for maintaining appropriate systems to track successful implementation.

· Manage special event budgets and logistics, including liaison with outside vendors and preparation, mailing of event invitations, and post-event logistics, including all host and donor follow-up, vendor invoices, etc.

· Manage department invoices and work closely with Associate for Foundation Relations on tracking budget expenditures; responsible for monitoring budget for direct response consultant.

· Manage gift processing of low and mid-dollar gifts that come directly to the Center, including matching gifts, tribute gifts, etc.

· Act as point person for the Center’s donor newsletter mailing (2x/year) by providing print estimates and mailing lists, stewarding cover letter approval, and maintaining Development stock and newsletter archives.

· Manage the Center’s State Charitable Registration compliance process, including liaison with registration agent, internal timeline for timely submission of IRS Form 990, preparation of all state submissions, and the maintenance of state registration files.

· Provide general administrative support to the department as needed.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree required.

· A minimum of three years’ experience in fundraising.

· Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Raiser’s Edge, Internet and Lexis-Nexis.

· Flexibility and ability to adapt to shifting duties while maintaining focus and follow-through and the ability to work professionally in a fast-paced environment.

· Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail, accuracy and pacing.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with capacity to receive and accept constructive feedback, take initiative and be pro-active and demonstrate solid problem-solving skills.

· Understanding of and commitment to the Center’s mission.

· High level of discretion and sensitivity to donor confidentiality issues
