A Mother's Day Message

Watch our video to hear what young women had to say about choice, lessons learned, and listening to your mom.

"My mom talked to me about being pro-choice."

This was something 18-year-old Ashley shared with the Center after its second annual "Take Your Daughters to Work Day," and a conversation we hope mothers and daughters everywhere have at some point.

Young women from the Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice in New York City paid a visit to our office, and what they agreed to share with us — about choice, lessons learned, and listening to their moms — was nothing less than inspiring.

"My mom believes that everyone has a choice and that everyone can make their own decisions." – Carlene, 17

"I think I'm pro-choice because you should have that option no matter the circumstance." – Deborah, 15

"You should have the choice to choose whether or not you're ready for a baby." – Ekugbe, 15

The words of these young women were an invigorating reminder that young people do care about choice. And it's not because social networks or movie stars are telling them to. It's because of strong mothers who taught (and will continue to teach) them how to make the best decisions about their own lives.
