07.08.10 - This letter is intended to supplement the combined third and fourth periodic report submitted by the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which is scheduled to be reviewed by the Committee on the Rights of the Child (the Committee) during its 54th session. The Center for Reproductive Rights, (the Center) an international non-governmental organization, and Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC), a national non-governmental organization based in Nigeria, hope to further the work of the Committee by providing independent information concerning the rights protected under the Convention on the Rights of the Child (the Convention). This letter highlights several areas of concern regarding the status of the reproductive health and rights of girls and adolescents in Nigeria, with a focus on access to reproductive health services and information and freedom from gender-based violence.
