The Center for Reproductive Rights took part in a joint civil society event at the UN Headquarters in New York on December 13, 2013 titled: Human Rights at the Core of Sustainable and Just Development, together with Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the Center for Economic and Social Rights, Association for Women’s Rights in Development and Realizing Sexual and Reproductive Justice. Human rights have surged to the forefront of the debate about what will succeed the Millennium Development Goals in 2015. Yet, UN member states are just beginning to articulate the concrete implications of embedding human rights into the post-2015 sustainable development framework. Center Vice-President Luisa Cabal spoke at the event highlighting the importance of integrating the human rights framework to ensure accountability and also to call on states to ensure the gains made on reproductive rights are fully reflected in the new Sustainable Development Goals with regard to both health and equality.
